The BUCT School of International Education held a virtual opening ceremony on November 2nd for the 2021 China-Africa Friendship CSC General Scholars Program (the Program), A Ministry of Education-subsidized training program for African teachers, jointly undertaken by Beijing University of Chemical Technology, China Nonferrous Metal Industry Human Resource Center and Beijing Polytechnic College. Dedicated to implementing the “Belt and Road” Initiative, the Program is, under the theme “Improving teacher training and qualifications in Africa with university-business-vocational school cooperation and dual 3+1 model”, committed to training a number of capable teachers qualified for instructing chemical engineering, environmental science, energy engineering, medicine, material chemistry, mechanics, computer science as well as assuming management responsibilities and conducting scientific researches in these fields. The Program would engage in training teachers for African colleges and vocational schools who are friendly to China. A score of eligible teachers from African countries including Ethiopia, Zambia, Tunisia and Egypt have registered for the training program.

The event was attended virtually by Li Qifang, Chair of School of International Education, Zhu Lihua, Deputy Director of Education and Training Division under the China Nonferrous Metal Industry Human Resource Center, Meng Qing, Deputy Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Division under the Beijing Polytechnic College, Yavwa, associate dean of China-Zambia Vocational and Technical College, staff responsible for foreign students of BUCT School of International Education, teachers responsible for the program from Beijing Polytechnic College and all trainees.
Li Qifang extended his welcome to the attending trainees and gave an introduction of BUCT in terms of international exchange and cooperation, prominent disciplines, training programs of foreign students and elaborated on exchange and cooperation with African countries. Meng Qing provided information on Beijing Polytechnic College and shared experience in joint educational programs with nonferrous practitioners conducted overseas as well achievements made in training skilled personnel and experts for countries along the "Belt and Road". Yavwa described the history and achievement of China-Zambia Vocational and Technical College and expressed his gratitude and high expectations to the training program.

Zhao Jianya elaborated on the background, design, curriculum and arrangement of the training program. Zhang Shuai clarified requirements and accommodation information for trainees. Ma Jun shared his valuable experience of teaching in Zambia, expressed his expectations for the trainees to cherish the opportunity and a long-awaited face-to-face meeting in Beijing after the pandemic. The 10-month program would offer courses on technological theories, management skills, Chinese culture, etc. along with virtual field survey and online exchange and interaction.
The Program, as a part of the "Belt and Road" Initiative, responds to the overall development demand of China and its outbound enterprises in efforts to enhance global visibility for BUCT, facilitate its international exchange and cooperation undertakings and enhance its international education programs and global recognition. Meanwhile, the program is committed to promoting China-Africa cultural exchanges, foster greater global understanding and contributing to the exchanges and mutual learning of civilizations across the world.
