Founded in 2011, the School of International Education is one of the directly affiliated schools of the Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT), which serves as a key window for the implementation of the BUCT’s internationalization strategy. Centering on the goal of the BUCT to build a “double first-class” university and the mission of training international talents, the School has continued to improve the quality and scale of international education and increased its teaching strength by focusing on the trends of mainstream disciplines, keeping an eye on the international academic frontiers and the difficulties and emphases in international education, vigorously promoting international education, and filling the gap of Sino-foreign cooperative education for the BUCT.
The School is mainly responsible for the education of foreign students and the management Sino-foreign cooperative programs. It has established in-depth relationship with more than 40 universities from more than 10 countries including the USA, Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Ireland. The current Sino-foreign cooperative education programs include: The bachelor’s degree program of “Mechanical Design and Manufacturing and Automation” with the University of Detroit Mercy (“Robotics and Electromechanical Engineering”), the bachelor’s degree program of “Bioengineering” with the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (“Bioprocess Engineering”), the bachelor’s degree program of “Industrial Design” with the University of Genoa, Italy (“Product and Vessel Design”), the master’s degree program of “Bioprocess Engineering” with the University of Georgia (“Bio-manufacturing and Bio-processing”). The access to the advanced educational ideas, teaching methods, talent training modes and other education and teaching resources of partner institutions has enabled the BUCT to further internationalize its academic disciplines and faculties, build a high-quality teaching team of internationally known experts, and upgrade its talent training quality to the advanced international level.
At present, there are more than 600 international students studying in the School. Supported by the academic strength of the BUCT, the School is constantly improving the education system for international students with a well-established curriculum for Chinese language and culture education. The School has set up six English-taught master’s degree programs and 58 courses, including one state-level excellent course and 21 university-level excellent courses. Leveraging the international resources, the School has established an industry-university-research platform. It has founded the “Belt and Road” School and other international student education platforms, including the “Belt and Road” National Talent Cultivation Base in Beijing, the Sino-Spanish Joint Research Center for Advanced Materials, the “Belt and Road” International Talent Cultivation Center of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry International Capacity Cooperative Enterprise Alliance, and the Sino-Indonesia Industry-University-Research Alliance. With these platforms and the “Silk Road” scholarship, the School has created a system that covers different levels of international student education, ranging from language preparation, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree to doctor’s degree programs. It has cultivated many international talents who know and love China. The School is promoting the “Belt and Road” visiting scholar & research program. It has invited more than 50 well-known experts from 20+ universities and organizations of 10+ countries to visit the BUCT, making a positive contribution to the international culture integration and the internationalization strategy of the University.
