UDM's Major: Robotics and Mechatronic Systems Engineering

Program Introduction

The Program is a Sino-foreign cooperative education program approved by the Ministry of Education (with approval no.: MOE11US2A20131521N, Program code: 080202H), and is jointly carried out by Beijing University of Chemical Technology and University of Detroit Mercy (UDM). The corresponding major of BUCT for the Program is Mechanical Engineering and Its Automation while that of UDM for the Program is Robotics and Mechatronic Systems Engineering. The Program deeply integrates the professional characteristics of BUCT and UNIGE. By vigorously introducing overseas education and teaching resources, the Program intends to reform teaching modes and methods, strengthen the training of students' innovative practical ability, improve the quality of talent training, and cultivate socialist builders and successors with international vision and international competitiveness.

The Program started student recruitment from 2014 and by now it has recruited 293 students.

About UDM

University of Detroit Mercy (DUM), founded in 1877, is a comprehensive private university founded the earliest near the Great Lakes. It has more than 100 programs provided by 8 schools, i.e. School of Engineering, Business School, Law School, School of Architecture, School of Liberal Arts and Education, School of Nursing, School of Dentistry and School of Health. UDM has been named the "Best University of the United States" by US News and Report for 12 consecutive years, and the "First Class Research and Education Institution in Michigan" among 145 universities in the Midwest of the United States. The School of Engineering of UDM is among the Top 100 in the United States in terms of undergraduate engineering (according to US News and Report). There are very few universities providing undergraduate program in Robotics and Electromechanical System Engineering, and UDM is the only one providing this program in the Midwest.

Program Feature

  1. "Robotics and Mechatronic Systems Engineering" and "Mechanical Engineering and Its Automation" have great potential for development.

  2. International faculties will undertake more than one-third of the core courses of BUCT, and students will have the opportunity to participate in the face-to-face teaching provided by outstanding overseas teachers in China.

  3. Students will study at UDM for one year and receive two undergraduate degrees from BUCT and UDM. The Program provides a platform for students to further study at prestigious international universities in the future.

  4. Compared with studying abroad for full four years, the Program greatly saves a family's investment in children's education.

The study mode of the Program is "3 + 1", that is, students shall spend the first three-year study in China and the fourth year in the United States. Students who complete their studies and achieve the required results will receive an undergraduate certificate and a bachelor's degree of engineering in Mechanical Engineering and Its Automation from BUCT and a bachelor's degree of engineering from UDM.(Note: Only those who study at UDM in the fourth year and achieve all the requirements can obtain the bachelor of engineering from UDM. The degree certificate of UDM shall be in the certificate format filed by the Ministry of Education of China).

Core Courses

Mechanical Design, Mechanical Manufacturing Technology, Statics, Material Mechanics, Digital Logic Circuit, Introduction to Microcontrollers, Software and Hardware Integration, Mechanical and Electrical Energy Conversion, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Transmission, Control System, Automatic Mobile Robot, Robot Technology, Mechanical Modeling and Simulation, etc.

Recruitment Capacity: 80 students

Tuition: RMB 50,000 per year at BUCT, and the tuition for one year at UDM subject to the tuition criteria of UDM. The tuition of UDM for the 2021-2022 academic year is US$46,400. Those with excellent academic performance can receive a scholarship, subject to the official information of UDM.

Recruitment Criteria

The Program is a planned unified enrollment program, and students can directly apply for the Program when applying for their intended university programs. The admission criteria shall be those for "the first batch of undergraduate recruitments in the national unified recruitment plan". The admission score line depends on the national college entrance examination and may fluctuate around the undergraduate program admission score line of BUCT. The specific requirements shall be subject to the applicable rules and regulations of China and the admission office of BUCT.

Talent Training Achievements
