In order to attract more international students of higher quality to study in China, and further increase the BUCT's international influence by strictly controlling admissions, the School of International Education has carried out the recommendation and review of the 2023 Chinese Government Scholarship High-level Graduate Student Program for international students, with the principle of "Openness, Fairness & Justice." An Expert Review Panel was established to include professors from School of International Education, the Graduate School, the College of Chemical Engineering, the College of Materials Science and Engineering, the College of Chemistry, the College of Life Science and Technology, the College of Information Science and Technology, and the School of International Education.
The Chinese Government Scholarship High-level Graduate Student Program offers scholarships to international students studying in China through China Scholarship Council, with the aim to increase the BUCT's international influence, attract more high-quality international talents, create a positive learning environment for international students, increase the scale and quality of the international students for high degrees and raise our international cooperation to a higher level. The Program adopts the principle of "individual application, college recommendation, expert review and selective admission", in order to select the international students with excellent academic background, professional ability and future development potential.
In 2023, the BUCT received more than 200 international applications. The School of International Education conducted a preliminary review of the applications, and screened out candidates based on the application materials and strict assessment of their research capabilities. Online video interviews for candidates of the PhD group and the Master's group were organized on March 27th and 28th respectively. The candidates were quantitatively evaluated from both academic and non-academic perspectives, using the BUCT's admission evaluation system for international students studying in China. The review process includes three parts: candidate oral defense, judges asking questions, and expert judges' scoring. 40 excellent candidates were finally selected, with the relevant materials submitted to China Scholarship Council for further review.

The interview review of the Chinese Government Scholarship High-level Graduate Program is our important method to improve our enrollment work to international students studying in China. Through video interview, we can further understand the basic information, language level, academic ability and comprehensive quality of international student candidates, which provides a basis and guarantee for us to objectively evaluate the level and quality of candidates and allows us to select the international students for Master and Doctor degree who know and are friendly to China and have development potential, so as to further improve the quality of international students and help our school's internationalization and the construction of "Double Top-class".
