His main research interests are metabolic engineering and synthetic biology, focusing on the key issue of "directional regulation of metabolic flux", proposing a multi-level research idea of strengthening the target metabolic flow, enhancing the directional distribution of metabolic flow in terms of intra-pathway cofactor recycle, parallel pathway convergence, inter-cellular metabolic synergy and mutual benefit of growth production, and designing efficient synthetic pathways for chemicals such as dencichine and glutaric acid, constructed a stable self-regulated co-culture system, and realized the industrial production of inositol and 5-hydroxytryptophan.
