As the new year begins, everything takes on a completely new look. At this beautiful moment of bidding farewell to the old year and welcoming the new, on behalf of the School of International Education (SIE), we extend the warmest greetings and most sincere wishes to all the faculties, student, alumni, and friends who show concern and give support to the development and construction of SIE!
This year, SIE has adhered to the guidance of Xi Jinping's Thoughts on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, studied, publicized and implemented the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the 2nd and 3rd Plenary Sessions of the 20th Central Committee, and the National Education Conference; adhered to the moral education, promoting all-round development in five aspects, and leading with innovation. It has continuously carried out three undergraduate and one master's CCE programs, training international innovative talents with native land emotion, international perspective, solid professional knowledge and global competence. It has adhered to the combination of introduction and training to build the international high-level faculty in the whole university. It has adhered to multi-channel recruitment, diversified investment and multi-level training for international students, building and improving the "Belt and Road" cooperation platform, base, and global cooperation network, serving the globalization development strategy; achieving significant progress in high-quality development.
This year, SIE has completed three important Quality Assessments and Professional Certification. SIE has earnestly implemented all the work arranged by BUCT, comprehensively sorted out the undergraduate teaching and talent training, and successfully completed the work of Undergraduate Education and Teaching Quality Assessment by the Ministry of Education. SIE organized and participated in the five-yearly Quality Assessment of the three undergraduates CCE programs by the Ministry of Education. It successfully completed the assessment including self-evaluation, online publicity and comprehensive assessment during four months. At the same time, SIE organized and participated in the higher education quality certification (re-certification) for international students by the China Education Association for International Exchange. These will further enhance the social influence of our Chinese-foreign cooperation in running schools and education for international students, and provide important foundation and condition guarantee for us to expand higher-level and higher-quality cooperation projects.
This year, the admission scores of the SIE undergraduate students ave reached a new level, the quality of CCE programs has advanced steadily. Students have won 305 awards at or above the university level in discipline competitions or entrepreneurship competitions, including 115 provincial and ministerial level and above awards and 47 national and international level awards. Among them are the gold medals of the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM) and Milan Design Week. The undergraduates have published 11 papers in domestic and foreign journals and conferences, 2 domestic patents authorized, 7 domestic patent applications and 2 software copyright registrations. As of August 31, 2024, the employment rate of the 2024 undergraduate graduates has reached 96.7%, and the further study rate has reached 88.1%. 101 students have been admitted to internationally renowned universities such as Johns Hopkins University and Cornell University for postgraduate study.
This year, SIE has vigorously introduced high-quality overseas educational resources in the three undergraduate CCE programs and one master CCE program, and completed the teaching of 44 courses by international faculties. It has vigorously promoted the educational and teaching reform of CCE programs and completed 24 educational reform projects of CCE programs in 2024. It has obtained one general project for education reform of the Beijing Higher Education Association.
This year, SIE has actively applied for and obtained 2 Chinese government scholarship projects and 1 Beijing government scholarship project. It has developed 3 enterprise scholarships for international students. It has successfully applied to become a member of the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education. The enrollment of new students with degree program has reached 108, and the number of non-degree students has reached 105, reaching a new historical level. It has drafted and promoted 3 regulations such as the "Administrative Measures for Recruiting and Training International Students of BUCT (Trial)", improving the recruiting, training and management of international students.
This year, we have continued to expand our "circle of friends", focused on building the brand of Study in BUCT. We have signed 11 university-level international cooperation agreements, developed 5 core partners of the Belt and Road, and signed 10 school-level cooperation agreements. We have successfully held the 10th International Cultural Festival, International Career Festival, Lectures on Traditional Chinese Culture, "Experiencing China" Summer Practice and other activities, organized the "Chinese Story" Micro-Preaching Group of BUCT, strengthened the exchange and integration of Chinese and International students, and cultivated international students to understand and love China. We have successfully held two sessions of the International Summer School, both of which were funded by the Chinese government scholarship, attracting 49 students from the United Kingdom, France, Spain and other countries to participate. The activity was recommended as a highlight activity by the YES program. We have continuously carried out three 2+2 English-taught undergraduate double degree joint programs and established one new 2+2 English-taught undergraduate double degree joint program. Jointly with the International Exchange & Cooperation Department and Office of Academic Affairs, we have supported the construction of 59 English-taught international courses, and plan to open five new English-taught undergraduate programs in 2025.
This year we have achieved many progress, and we will make even greater progress next year. Let us adhere to integrity and innovation, forge ahead, strive to write a new chapter for the high-quality development of the SIE.
