On January 7th, Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) held a successful symposium for international student representatives in East Campus. The event was attended by Li Qifang, Chair of School of International Education(SIE); Yan Hong, Vice Dean of SIE and Yu Yue, Vice Dean and Vice Chair of SIE; Zhang Jiafu, Director of the International Students Teaching Affairs Department; Jiang Xin, Vice Director of the International Student Affairs Department. With the teachers and international student representatives were also present and engaged in in-depth discussions. The meeting was hosted by Jiang Xin.
During the symposium, Professor Li Qifang delivered an opening speech, praising the international student community for their tireless efforts and achievements over the past year. He encouraged the students to maintain their passion for learning and continue improving academically, while also emphasizing the importance of adhering to BUCT's rules and regulations in order to successfully graduate.
The meeting then transitioned into a free discussion session, during which international student representatives took turns to speak. They shared their experiences of studying and living at BUCT, including the challenges they had faced, the accomplishments they had achieved, and the joy of exploring new journeys. The participants openly exchanged opinions and experiences with one another.
As part of the symposium, also held an award ceremony for the Best Students National Pavilion Booth and Outstanding Volunteers. Representatives from Russia, Yemen, Italy, Thailand, Pakistan, South Korea, and Algeria were honored with the Best Booth Award. Additionally, SIE recognized volunteers and participants who made outstanding contributions during the Culture Festival.
Following this, Professor Yan Hong delivered a concluding speech. She expressed that SIE would continue to strive to provide better learning and living environments for international students. She encouraged the students to cherish their time at BUCT, work hard, and contribute to cultural exchanges between China and other countries. And she also express her best wishes for the 2025 new year.
Furthermore, good news was announced during the meeting: The college is set to collaborate with CHAMBROAD Group to launch an internship program in 2025, offering international students’ opportunities for professional development. In the future, SIE plans to establish long-term, stable partnerships with more well-known companies in the chemical industry, providing internship and employment opportunities for international students. SIE will also actively offer more career guidance and services, including organizing job fairs, providing employment information, and hosting career planning seminars.
After the symposium, a special Laba Festival dumpling-making event was held in the international student apartment activity room to celebrate the New Year. Guided by teachers and staff, the international students made dumplings by hand, experiencing the warmth and joy of the traditional Chinese holiday.
The successful organization of this symposium for international students and the Laba Festival event not only deepened the friendships among international students but also allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of Chinese traditional culture and customs. Beijing University of Chemical Technology will continue to dedicate itself to promoting cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries, providing international students with even more diverse cultural activities and learning opportunities.
