Listening to Voices, Enhancing Services—SIE Hosts Student Symposiums on Dual-Degree Undergraduate Programs to Discuss Growth

BEIJING, March 2024–From March 13 to 24, the School of International Education (SIE) of Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) held three symposiums with student representatives from its "2+2" dual-degree programs at the East Campus and Changping Campus. These sessions engaged Russian and Thai program students in discussions on curriculum design, academic support, and campus life, aiming to gather feedback and enhance international education services. Attendees included Qifang Li, Chair of SIE; Yue Yu, Vice-Dean of SIE; Zhang Jiafu, Director of the International Students Teaching Affairs Department of SIE; Claire Jiang, Vice Director of International Student Affairs Department of SIE; and faculty representatives.

During the March 13 symposium, Thai students emphasized their need for stronger university-enterprise collaboration, hoping SIE could expand more internship and practical opportunities to boost employability. Discussions also explored participation in academic research, joint international scientific competitions, and plans for advanced studies in China. SIE pledged to optimize partnership mechanisms, broaden internship resources, and offer specialized guidance for graduate school applications and career development.

In the March 21 and 24 symposiums, Russian students highlighted concerns about graduation project requirements, laboratory access, and language barriers. Senior students requested clearer graduation criteria and more opportunities for lab work.

Junior students raised challenges in Chinese communication, proposing enhanced language support and more sports activities. In response, SIE plans to refine academic advising, organize regular Chinese language corners, and host cultural and sports events to improve language proficiency and integrate into campus life.

The three symposiums provided valuable insights for improving SIE’s teaching and services. Based on student feedback, SIE will improve curriculum design, academic support, and living conditions while establishing regular communication mechanisms to enhance international education standards and support student growth and success.
