1.Programme description

The Advanced Innovation Center for Soft Matter Science and Engineering focuses on soft matter systems as its research subject. By applying multidisciplinary integration spanning chemistry, chemical engineering, materials, biology, and environment, it addresses critical scientific and technological challenges in energy, environment, and life science fields. The Program adopts an integrated science-engineering approach for talent cultivation, offering five primary academic tracks: Chemical Engineering and Technology, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science and Engineering, and Bioengineering.

The discipline of Chemical Engineering and Technology achieved significant milestones: it was granted the authority to award the Master of Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering in 1981 and the Ph.D degree in Chemical Engineering in 1984, established a postdoctoral research station in Chemical Engineering and Technology in 1988, and gained the authority to award Ph.D degree in the primary discipline of Chemical Engineering and Technology in 2000. The Chemical Engineering discipline was designated as a national key discipline in 2001, and the Chemical Engineering and Technology discipline was recognized as one of the first batch of national key primary disciplines in 2007. In 2022, the discipline of Chemical Engineering and Technology was selected for China's "Double First-Class" University Project as a national key construction discipline.

1.Main Research Directions

  • Soft Matter Science: theoretical research on soft matter science, research on the scientific principles of interfacial self-assembly, and theoretical research on low-carbon and green catalytic chemistry

  • Green and Low-carbon Soft Matter: development and application of high-energy optoelectronic conversion materials and devices, high-efficiency fuel cell materials and devices, high-safety and high-energy-density storage batteries, flexible electronic materials and devices, intelligent luminescent materials, and high-performance structural materials

  • Life-health Soft Matter: synthetic biology, new drug delivery, and environmental safety & biosafety

This Program cultivates well-rounded professional technicians. Academic master's degree holders should possess a solid theoretical foundation and systematic expertise, have expertise in modern experimental synthesis methods and characterization techniques relevant to the subject, strengthen and permeate with materials, environment, light industry, petrochemical, life science, chemical engineering and other disciplines and have the basic theory and a wide range of knowledge of multi-disciplines, possess proficiency in reading specialized literature, good writing skills and the capability of international academic exchanges. Meanwhile, he/she should have the preliminary computer ability and be able to use the computer and the network technology skillfully to carry on literature collection and exchange; have rigorous and pragmatic scientific attitude, good experimental skills and the ability to summarize and analyze scientific problems, be competent for teaching, scientific research and technical management in colleges and universities, scientific research institutes, enterprises and other units.
