Founded in 1958, Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) is a national key university affiliated with the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. A member university of China's "211 Project", "985 Project Innovation Platforms" and “Double First-Class University Project". With 18 colleges and schools, BUCT is the home university of 16,000 full-time undergraduate students, 10400 full-time postgraduate students (including 2,000 PhD students), 2,700 students of continuing education, and around 400 international students. It hosts more than 2,700 faculty members and staff including 8 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Science and the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 5 international academicians.

Program Introduction

The Chinese Government Scholarship High Level Postgraduate Program is designed to cultivate high-level international talent, enhance academic exchange, and promote cooperation between China and other countries. It supports outstanding international students who wish to pursue Master’s or Ph.D. degrees at leading Chinese universities. The China Scholarship Council (CSC), authorized by the Ministry of Education, manages the selection, admission, and scholarship administration process.

BUCT is a participating host institution and welcomes excellent candidates to apply for postgraduate study under this program.

All postgraduate programs at BUCT are open for CSC High Level Postgraduate Program application.
Applicants to Double First-Class disciplines are given priority.

Program Duration

Master’s: 3 years

Ph.D : 4 years



Scholarship Coverage

The scholarship provides comprehensive financial support, including:

Full tuition fee waiver

Free on-campus accommodation

Monthly stipend:

Master’s students: CNY 3,000 per month

Doctoral students: CNY 3,500 per month

Comprehensive medical insurance: CNY 800 per person per year



Eligibility

  1. Be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health both mentally and physically.

  2. Education Certificate and Age Requirements:

For Master’s programs, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.

For Doctoral programs, applicants must hold a master’s degree (or equivalent) and be under the age of 40.

  1. Language Requirements:

Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must submit valid HSK results, with HSK Level 4 (score ≥180) or above.

Applicants for English-taught programs must provide valid English proficiency certificates: for Master’s programs, TOEFL ≥ 85 or IELTS ≥ 6.0; for Doctoral programs, TOEFL ≥ 90 or IELTS ≥ 6.5.

Native English speakers are exempt, and other English certificates recognized by BUCT may also be accepted.

Must comply with Ministry of Education (MOE) regulations JW [2020] No. 12.



Application Process

Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply as early as possible, as early submissions receive higher priority during the evaluation and document review process.

Note:

Applicants must complete applications on both the CSC Scholarship Portal and the BUCT Application Portal. Applications submitted on only one platform will NOT be reviewed.

Step-by-Step Application


  • Register on the CSC Scholarship Portal

    • Applicants must first visit the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System. They should select the High Level Postgraduate Program (Program Category: Type B), enter the BUCT Agency Number: 10010, complete the online application form, and upload all required materials.

  • Register on the BUCT Application System

    • After completing the CSC application, applicants must log in to the BUCT Application System. They should create an account, fill in all personal and academic information, and upload the supporting documents requested by BUCT.

  • Applicants who pass BUCT’s preliminary evaluation are required to pay the application fee of 500 CNY.

  • Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be invited to take part in a comprehensive interview.

  • Applicants who pass the evaluation process will be notified of their pre-admission status via email.

  • Successful candidates will receive their final admission documents, including the Admission Letter and the JW201 / JW202 Visa Application Form.

Required Application Documents

Applicants must prepare and upload the following documents:

  • The Application Form for the Chinese Government Scholarship, completed and submitted through the CSC online system.

  • A clear copy of the passport home page, ensuring that all personal information is visible(valid for at least one year; applicants with previous experience in China must provide scanned copies of all relevant Chinese visas and residence permits).

  • A notarized copy of the highest diploma (and degree certificate, if applicable), or an official certificate of student status for prospective graduates who have not yet received their diploma(confirming that the graduation certificate and degree certificate will be obtained before September 1, 2026).

  • Academic transcripts from the undergraduate program onward, including all completed coursework and grades.

  • Valid language qualification certificates:

    • For Chinese-taught programs: Applicants must provide a valid HSK Level 4 report (with a score of 200 or above). Otherwise, a one-year Chinese language preparatory course is required, and the corresponding certificate must be obtained upon completion.

    • For English-taught programs: Applicants must submit English proficiency certificates issued within the last two years, such as IELTS 6.0 (or above) or TOEFL 85 (or above) for Master’s programs, and IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 90 for Doctoral programs. Native English speakers are exempt, and other English certificates recognized by BUCT may also be accepted.

  • An acceptance letter from a prospective BUCT supervisor(mandatory for doctoral program applicants).

  • A study plan or research proposal, outlining academic objectives and research interests.

  • Two letters of recommendation written by professors or associate professors who can comment on the applicant’s academic ability and potential.

  • Proof of academic achievements, publications, or other supporting materials, if available.

  • The Foreigner Physical Examination Form and a blood test report, both issued within the last six months.

  • A non-criminal record certificate issued by the applicant’s local public security authority within the last six months.

  • Physical examination report (issued within the last six months).

  • A resume or curriculum vitae (CV) summarizing academic background, experience, and skills.

  • An integrity commitment letter, confirming that all submitted information and documents are truthful and authentic.

  • The major you select must remain the same on both systems. Once your admission is confirmed, the major cannot be changed.

  • Applicants nominated by BUCT will undergo an expert review by the China Scholarship Council (CSC). Final scholarship results are determined solely by CSC.
