Author: Release date:2025-12-18

BEIJING, December 2025–From November 27 to December 11, the School of International Education (SIE) at Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) has successfully conducted a series of safety education activities as part of its ongoing "Safe BUCT" campaign. Designed to create a secure and stable campus environment, the program comprehensively covered critical areas such as health protection, fire safety, and anti-fraud education. Through diverse and practical formats, the initiative has established an all-encompassing safety education system, significantly boosting the safety awareness and self-protection capabilities of international students, and has garnered widespread participation and positive feedback.

Fortifying the "Dual Defense Line": Targeted Anti-Fraud and Fire Safety Knowledge

On November 27, the SIE hosted a dedicated "Campus Safety Dual Defense Line: Anti-Fraud and Fire Safety Knowledge Lecture," strategically focusing on two pressing campus safety concerns: telecommunications network fraud prevention and fire safety.

The first half of the lecture, delivered by Ms. Guo Ting, an investment advisor from Southwest Securities, systematically outlined the evolution of telecom fraud and its ten most common types, tailored to the characteristics of the student population.By analyzing real-world cases like "online brushing scams" and "fake shopping," Ms. Guo elucidated fraudulent tactics, highlighted the legal risks—such as potentially being charged with the crime of "aiding information network criminal activities"—associated with lending or selling personal bank accounts, and provided a practical anti-fraud guide encapsulated in the "Three Don't and One Do" principle: don't trust easily, don't disclose information, don't transfer money, and always verify.

The second half featured an engaging fire safety session by Lecturer Wu Yajun from the Changping District Fire and Rescue Division. He detailed the hazards of common fire risks in dorms and classrooms, such as electrical overload and unauthorized appliances, and systematically taught correct escape, self-rescue techniques, and initial response methods during a fire, thereby building a solid fire safety awareness among students.

Building a Campus Health Defense: Popularizing Knowledge on Infectious Disease Prevention

On December 11, a special lecture on "Common Campus Infectious Diseases and Prevention" was successfully held at the Changping campus. Presented by Professor Guan Yuhong, Director of the BUCT University Hospital, the session explained the transmission routes, key prevention points, and daily personal protection measures for common respiratory and digestive tract infectious diseases, considering the university setting and the international student cohort. Through case studies, the lecture emphasized the importance of scientific prevention, seeking timely medical care, and cultivating good hygiene habits, while also detailing the services available at the university hospital. This approach strengthened students' understanding and trust in the campus healthcare system.

Deepening Fire Safety Drills: Enhancing Practical Self-Rescue Skills

Following the theoretical sessions, the college organized a fire safety drill and hands-on training on the same day, December 11. Under professional guidance, the international students learned emergency response procedures and evacuation principles. During the critical hands-on fire extinguisher training, students personally practiced the "P.A.S.S." technique (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep), effectively translating theoretical knowledge into practical skills and significantly improving their emergency response capabilities and psychological preparedness for real-life fire scenarios.

Looking Ahead

The successful "Safe BUCT" series, utilizing a "lecture + drill" model, has systematically enhanced the international students' overall safety competence. Reflecting the college's profound commitment to the well-being of its international students, the SIE pledges to continue its student-centered approach, further enriching the scope of safety education and improving long-term mechanisms. This commitment aims to provide a solid foundation for international students to study with peace of mind and achieve comprehensive development, thereby steadily advancing the university's internationalization efforts.
