Recently, the second session of the 2026 Beijing University of Chemical Technology International Summer School, a 14-day program, was successfully held at the Changping campus. This event aims to implement the important consensus reached during the meeting between the Chinese and U.S. heads of state and to further promote cultural exchange and educational cooperation among young people from China and the U.S. A total of 25 students from the U.S., along with their teachers, participated in this session.
This summer school is themed 'Digital Intelligence Empowering Sustainable Development in Green Chemistry' and offers a wide range of courses and activities, carefully designed around fields such as artificial intelligence, green chemistry, biomaterials, Chinese culture, and technological innovation. It includes special lectures, hands-on experiments, historical and cultural explorations, as well as campus exchanges.
The opening ceremony of the summer school was held at the Changping campus. Li Qifang, Party Secretary of the School of International Education, gave a welcome speech, warmly greeting the overseas teachers and students who traveled from afar and expressing hope that this event would further enhance mutual understanding and friendship among young students. Vice Dean (in charge) Yan Hong introduced the basic situation of the school, and Liu Jiefu went over the summer school’s course schedule and orientation. The ceremony was hosted by Vice Dean Yu Yue of the School of International Education.
After the opening ceremony, teachers and students visited the school history museum. Through a rich display of historical materials and explanations of the Beihua spirit, they gained an in-depth understanding of the school's development, educational philosophy, and scientific achievements.
During the camp, students attended several high-level special lectures, including "From Large Models to Intelligent Agents: New Frontiers in AI and Learning in the AI Era," "The Chemical Secrets in Traditional Chinese Colors," and "Bionic Bone Structures: Designing Biomaterials for Healthcare and Energy Storage." These helped them gain a deeper understanding of cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence, chemistry, biomaterials, and energy storage.
Students also took part in lab courses such as measuring vitamin C content and making transparent soap, and they visited the National Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Experimental Teaching Center, getting a close-up look at the advancements Chinese universities have made in green chemistry, materials science, and technological innovation.
In addition, the school organized visits for students to historical and cultural landmarks like the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, and the Summer Palace, as well as modern technology and cultural buildings such as the China Science and Technology Museum, the Bird's Nest, and the Water Cube, allowing students to experience the rich heritage of Chinese civilization and the vibrant development of modern China firsthand.
In 2026, the Ministry of Education will continue to offer the Chinese Government Scholarship - International Summer School Program. In response to the Ministry's call, promoting openness in education, and supporting the university's 'Double First Class' development and internationalization strategy, Beijing University of Chemical Technology continues to develop high-level international summer schools and actively attracts outstanding young students from overseas to come to China for exchange and study.
The successful holding of this summer school is an important step for the school in deepening international exchange and cooperation, and promoting the 'Study Abroad at Beihua' brand. In the future, the school will continue to uphold the idea of open education, create a high-quality platform for international education exchange, and provide a broad stage for more young people around the world to learn about China, experience Beihua, and promote mutual understanding of cultures.
