Experiencing China: International Students from Our School Explore Tianjin, Discovering the Frontiers of Liquefied Natural Gas and New Materials

On March 20th, the series of events 'Perceiving China: Speaking China through Chemistry,' organized by Beijing University of Chemical Technology, arrived in Tianjin. Nearly 20 international students departed from the Changping campus and experienced China's energy transition and innovations in new materials up close by attending the 6th China LNG Conference and visiting Kingfa Technology in Tianjin.

At the LNG Conference: Listening to China's voice on green development

In the morning, international students went to the venue of the 6th China Liquefied Natural Gas Conference and Exhibition. As the most influential industry event in China’s LNG field, this conference featured five main forum topics: resource market trade and green development, digital delivery and intelligent operation & maintenance, equipment and materials manufacturing, among others. The students chose forums to attend based on their majors, and some also visited the concurrent achievements exhibition, where over 230 leading companies, including China National Pipeline Group, Sinopec, Dongfang Electric, CSBC Corporation, Unitree Technology, and Hikvision, showcased cutting-edge technological achievements. Through the forums and exhibition, the students got a firsthand sense of China’s technological accumulation and openness in the energy sector.

Visiting Kingfa Sci & Tech: Experiencing the industrial backbone of new-quality productivity

In the afternoon, the international students visited Kingfa Technology's Tianjin company. As a leading global listed company in modified plastics, Kingfa's products are widely used in automobiles, low-altitude economy, smart manufacturing, and green environmental protection. In the company's exhibition hall and laboratory, from lightweight plastics for new energy vehicles to fully biodegradable materials, the students kept stopping to check out the cutting-edge achievements. During the visit, company technicians also introduced the applications of modified plastics in the new energy vehicle field.

During the discussion session, the company’s R&D department introduced its technology layout in the field of new materials, while the HR department announced overseas positions covering areas like tech development and market expansion. During the interaction, PIMCHANOK NIPATWARAKAN, a master’s student from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, combined her research on high-performance polymer electrolytes to discuss with R&D staff the prospects of using modified plastics in new energy battery packaging materials. Ivone Noriega Mollo, a PhD student from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, talked with company representatives about fully biodegradable plastics and circular economy practices from the perspective of green development. The two international students’ professional sharing showcased the solid academic foundation and interdisciplinary thinking of students at Beihua, earning praise from the company reps, who encouraged everyone to use what they’ve learned as a bridge to become participants in future international cooperation and industrial development.

This trip to Tianjin was an important stop in the ‘Experience China: Talking China through Chemicals’ series. Acting as a hands-on national conditions lesson, from industry exhibitions and forums to manufacturing companies, and from macro policies to tech applications, students gained a comprehensive understanding of the entire LNG industry chain and new materials in just one day. After the event, they eagerly used their phones to capture what they saw and then shared their own 'China Chemical Stories' on international social media platforms.

This trip received strong support from Kingfa Technology's Tianjin branch. The International Education College of Beijing University of Chemical Technology will continue to deepen cooperation with leading companies in the industry, helping international students in China understand and share China through both knowledge and practice.
