On May 12th, the International Education College of Beijing University of Chemical Technology organized a visit for Chinese and international student representatives to the Central Library of the National Library of Versions of China. The students stepped into the hall of Chinese cultural treasures, gained an in-depth understanding of the historical inheritance and modern development of China's excellent traditional culture, and felt the profound heritage and cultural confidence of Chinese civilization.
Led by the guide, the teachers and students visited the theme exhibition halls, document collection areas, and special display spaces of the National Library of China, following a set route. As the national repository of version resources and a cultural 'gene bank' of Chinese heritage, the National Library of China houses key version resources of the Chinese nation, covering everything from ancient texts and stone rubbings to revolutionary documents and modern publications. Through a variety of physical exhibits, digital displays, and multimedia interactions, the students got a clear and engaging understanding of the development of Chinese civilization and the significance of preserving and passing on China’s documented cultural heritage.
During the visit, the students were drawn to the museum's collection of rare ancient books, historical documents, and cultural classics. From documents related to the 'Yongle Encyclopedia' to precious historical archives, and from displays of traditional woodblock printing techniques to the use of modern digital preservation technology, the students got a deep sense of the long, continuous history of Chinese civilization and the significant achievements China has made in protecting and innovatively sharing its cultural heritage.
During the special lecture session, the presenter gave a detailed introduction on the development history of Chinese edition culture, the organization and preservation of ancient Chinese classics, and the construction of a culturally strong nation in the new era. They also connected it with the international spread of China's excellent traditional culture and interacted with the students and teachers on-site. The students expressed that through this visit, they not only deepened their understanding of Chinese history and culture but also gained a more direct sense of the continuity, creativity, and inclusiveness of Chinese civilization.
Students from different countries shared their impressions based on their own learning experiences. Albina Balgayeva from Kazakhstan said that the National Edition Museum of China is not just a hall of cultural treasures but also an important window to understand Chinese history and spiritual culture. Muhammad Ali Raza from Pakistan remarked that the combination of digital technology with traditional cultural preservation was impressive, fully reflecting China’s active exploration in integrating cultural heritage with technological innovation.
This visit was an important initiative by the International Education College of Beijing University of Chemical Technology to promote the "Perceive China" social practice and national condition education. It was also a key part of the series of activities "Perceiving China: A Chemist’s Journey for International Students in China" and the "Walking National Condition Class". Through on-site visits and learning experiences, the event guided Chinese and foreign students to gain a deeper understanding of China’s outstanding traditional culture and achievements in cultural development in the new era, further enhancing international students’ knowledge and appreciation of Chinese history and culture, and promoting exchanges and mutual learning among young people from China and abroad.
In the future, the college will continue to leverage abundant social and cultural resources to organize diverse activities on national condition practice and cultural experiences, helping Chinese and foreign students to truly understand and connect with China through immersive experiences, and continuously deepen cultural exchanges between China and other countries.
